CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT

Morningside Group (www.morningsideusa.com) is a Chicago-based builder and developer that creates premier residential and mixed-use communities in sought-after cities throughout the Midwest.  We are currently seeking a Construction Superintendent.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and directs daily construction activities to deliver high quality results on time and within budget. Strives for minimal punch list issues to be resolved.
  • Oversees the daily construction activities at work site, including scheduling of sub-contractors, requisition and delivery of equipment and materials, and progress of the project.
  • Ensures that projects are built according to approved plans, specifications, design drawings, and applicable codes and that high quality standards are maintained
  • Works closely with the Project Manager to maintain schedule, meet project deadlines and budget requirements.
  • Records and communicates information and needs related to personnel, production and operational data on specified forms and reports.
  • Holds meetings with sub-contractors/foremen on a regular basis ensuring quality, project schedules and safety.
  • Demonstrates leadership in health, safety and environmental protection on the project. Oversees compliance with applicable OSHA standards, regulations and codes for all employees and contractors on the project
  • Works with project team to issue material and services purchase orders and confirms receipt of materials and return of equipment
  • Mentors project team members in order to contribute to their development and career growth

Qualifications

The ideal candidate works well with minimal supervision, is a team player, takes initiative and is willing dedicate the time that is necessary to get the job done. The position requires strong leadership, communication, organizational skills and the ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.

 

Minimum Requirements include:

  • Ten or more years of experience as a Superintendent
  • Construction management or equivalent degree preferred
  • Previous construction experience as a superintendent on projects of $20+ million plus
  • Demonstrated experience with new construction projects
  • Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures as they apply to common construction processes
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools involved in the construction and repair of building structures
  • Ability to guide safe work practices in a high pressure environment while maintaining project quality, schedule, and budget
  • Working knowledge of construction documents, contracts, costs, and budgets
  • Working knowledge of scheduling and project management
  • Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate with multiple project stakeholders, interpret stakeholders needs, and identify solutions
  • Capable of identifying constructability issues in moderately complex situations and creating solutions in the construction plan and schedule
  • Skilled at promoting teamwork with project team and stakeholders
  • Strong organizational and planning skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to use Word, Excel, and Outlook. Familiarity with scheduling software
