In recent years, Royal Oak has become a prime destination for outside development companies. In addition to Royal Oak’s recent downtown developments, construction also continues throughout other areas of town, including sections of 11 Mile Road and the old industrial areas just south of the city.

The newest addition to the Royal Oak SkyLofts project is the SkyLofts MarketSquare, located at the former site of the Select Inn motel.

The motel, once a magnet for crime and drug use, was torn down by the city in 2004.

Development company Morningside Group began construction on its six-story condominium building soon after.

The complex, now complete, contains more than 80 residential units and nearly 100 parking spaces.
