WHEATON – Wheaton 121, a $60 million luxury apartment project in downtown Wheaton, will soon open its doors.
David Strosberg, the president of the developer, Morningside, said that the new complex spared little expense.
“It is designed to be the finest rental building in DuPage County,” he said.
Wheaton 121 offers townhomes and apartments in a variety of sizes, from studios to three bedrooms. Rents range from $1,260 to $3,700. The project also includes a fitness room, a public theater, a common room and a main entrance. The complex won’t be open for tenants to move in until the beginning of September, but it already has 20 percent occupancy, Strosberg said. Features include furnishings and appliances, a pool, balconies, in-unit washers and dryers, air conditioning and more.
Strosberg said that Wheaton 121’s location downtown was an exciting prospect for his company.
“It’s a great location to live. The trend nationally is that individuals want to live and work where they can walk to amenities like restaurants,” he said. “Plus the proximity to the Metra can minimize car use and it’s near the Prairie Path. It’s a great community – kind of an all-American town.”
To capitalize on these amenities, residents will receive a VIP rewards card, giving them a discount to downtown businesses such as Ivy, the Bank Restaurant, Two Shopaholics, Muldoon’s and others.
The six-story building will be open July 13 to the public for the first time.
“It adds some luxury to our historic downtown, and it means more residents in the downtown area,” said Kerry O’Brien, executive director of the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce. “And more traffic also means more business. When new development is done right, like Morningside did, and goes along with the historic feel and doesn’t detract from it, it’s an advantage for everybody.”
